You know...some days your outings go well and some days....well...they just don't. Luckily this was a good outing day. The girls are out of school this week for Fall Break so I asked Paul if he could take Monday off from work so we could head down to Long Beach to the Aquarium there. We got there just a little before noon and knew right away that it was going to be a good day. Why? Because the parking lot was empty. That meant the Aquarium was too. We sat outside and ate our lunches I had packed and then headed in to see some fish. The weather was beautiful. Sunny and clear but not too warm. There weren't a ton of people inside, so we got to walk right up to all the touch tanks and tide pools and pet lots of little critters.
Including some moon jellies that I thought were just so cool. Those four rings in the middle are their stomachs and the ones that had lots of frilly stuff underneath were about to release babies. It was really fun to see.
Then we went in and saw a show on their new globe theater. It was all about global warming and taking care of our Earth. The kids thought it was so cool that the screen was round.
These two can be the best of friends and the worst of enemies. Leah was NOT happy at all that Brandon was getting in her picture. She decided she needed to throw a fit about it.
I thought it was pretty funny though when Brandon saw this GIANT Sea Bass in his peripheral vision and stopped fighting long enough to see if this thing was coming to eat him. It definitely shocked him.
Leah, as you can tell, is still upset Brandon is in her lime light.
Silly boy likes me to take random pictures of him.
I was quite proud of Ashlyn taking a picture of us here. She usually cuts off our heads or something.
But this one turned out pretty good.
There are so many cool sharks and giant sting rays to see. It was so nice that we didn't have to fight our way to the front to get a good look at them.
Mister Happy Boy, Carter, had a great time looking at all the fish. At one point we had him out of the stroller. Paul was holding him and showing him all the fish in a giant tank. He was really oohing and aahing at them.
After we looked at the sharks and played in the water area, we got in line for story time. Only no one else was in line. So we asked a worker if they were still having it. He said yes, but since no one else was interested that he would take us back to a party room and let the kids pet some more fish. It was awesome. Like our own private party. My favorite was the sea cucumber. But the sea anemone and sea urchin was pretty cool too. I put my finger in the spikes of the urchin and it literally closed it's points around my finger. I was glad I wasn't a little fish. I might have been that urchin's lunch.

Afterwards, we got an ice cream and walked out to the lighthouse to let the kids run around on the hill. Brandon decided to throw a knock down, on the ground, red in the face, yelling, kicking and screaming fit. All because Daddy would carry him (yes he was tired, but still....it was extreme). So I sat with him until he could calm down (it was a good 10 minutes or more) and then we walked up to the lighthouse together and met up with the rest of the family. So I guess no day is ever perfect, but that's okay. That's just the way life is.
